Parks

Overview

Most park facilities should be free for taxpayer and children of Youngstown. Other fees are a legitimate source of revenue, but charges may not be high; otherwise, children of meager means will be excluded from swimming pools. Municipal golf fees should also be limited in price and within reach of children and people of lower incomes.

"Children Are Our Most Precious Possession" is the slogan of the Park & Recreation Commission which was established 99 years ago in the year 1910.

Although we think of fire protection, police protection, the construction of new streets, highways, expressways, disposal plants and new buildings as being important, the construction of play facilities such as playgrounds, swimming pools and athletic fields is also of immense importance, for recreational programs and facilities contribute to the development of mental and physical health of our children, the future citizens of Youngstown, Ohio.

The City Park & Recreation Commission operates the municipal golf course, sponsors public concerts, manages programs for senior citizens and children and maintains 37 area park facilities including: baseball, football, softball, basketball, ice skating, swimming, cross country skiing, soccer and tennis. Click here for a complete listing and location of all parks maintained by the Youngstown Park & Recreation Commission.

The Park and Recreation Commission holds regular meetings, usually once a month, and establishes rules and regulations for its government and for the performance of its duties.
